ADHD is broken down into three subtpyes, according to the most recent DSM-5 manual. Predominantly Inattentive Presentation, Predominantly Hyperactive/Impulsive Presentation, and Combined Presentation. Use of the term ADD may specifically refer to ADHD of Inattentive Presentation.
ADD/ADHD usually persists throughout one’s lifetime. It is a neuro-behavioral condition that really has no cure nor do people outgrow it. A large percentage of children with the condition continue to have symptoms and challenges in adulthood.
ADD/ADHD occurs in both men and women. Although the ratio is tough to define, boys and men are much more likely to be diagnosed, receive testing, treatment and participate in studies for ADHD. Women are consistently under-diagnosed when compared to men.
As with the majority of medical conditions, not every case of ADD/ADHD is the same. The important thing for you to do is recognize the need for testing – that’s where this site, the ADD Test, can help.
